The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines was created to introduce basic skills and product knowledge for anyone wishing to join the hospitality or retail wine trade. It is also ideal for wine enthusiasts who wish to learn more and gain confidence.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to taste wine using a systematic approach, and be able to identify the main styles of wine. You’ll also learn the key principles of food and wine pairing and be able to apply these to your own food and wine choices.

Successful students will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

  • The principles of food and wine pairing
  • How to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

Mgr. Michal Šetka

Publicist, taster, photographer and co-founder of the WINE & Degustation magazine. He has been specialising in the wines of traditional European regions for considerable time now. Having completed several courses and training programmes (including WSET level 3 Advanced) in the field of wine in classic European wine countries, he is a taster and jury member at the most prestigious international and local wine competitions held every year. He also deals with issue of investment in French and Italian wines, has collaborated on a number of book publications on the subject of pairing food and wine and had his articles and photographs published in a great many professional and lifestyle magazines. He is a guarantor for the TOP Wine Destination project and president of the international wine trade fair, Wine Prague.

He was awarded the title “Valpolicella wine specialist” at the University of Verona in February 2018.

Course fee

The course fee includes all study materials, wine samples, tuition, examination and provision of service equipment during the course. Study materials are issued at the start of the course.

You shall receive a full year subscription to WINE & Degustation magazine as a bonus to every course.

You will taste approximately 8 different wines

 

Examination

At the end of the day there will be a 45 minute multiple choice exam of 30 questions and you need 70% to pass.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. You must be of legal drinking age to participate in any alcohol tasting. However, this is not a barrier to successfully completing the qualification.

All classes are delivered in English therefore a good level of English is beneficial.
